We've seen quite a few peacocks and some pea-hens and pea-chicks in Spain but Elx's stately and exotic botanic garden across the street from our parador had a ridiculous number of those pea-birds. And we got right in the middle of a peacock fight over a pea-hen. She was just minding her own business with her pea-babies when two pea-suitors thought they should show her a thing or two. When an interloper made some sort of mating display at our peahen, and the king peacock heard the invitation and suddenly he came flying in to demonstrate who was boss. The interloper gave a little lip and tail before fleeing but really it was all show with the beautiful peacocks. And it was so fast and exciting that everyone gasped.
