We arrived in BCN to meet our friends, the Setzers, with whom we were sharing a beautiful apartment near the beach for our first week. And here are the boys within 1/2 hour of arrival already head-down over some DS game having sorted out what boys were going in what rooms and finding solace in getting away from the adults. We don't have any photos of our apartment or of our fun beach days (Barceloneta x3 and a day trip to the gorgeous waters of Sitges). But we had terrific fun splashing around with the kids and collecting rocks. In photo 2, Dana and Scott are looking irritatingly fresh and cute after their overnight flight. Don't you want to just dump those mojitos in their laps? We refrained. But take a look at Bubo's award-winning Chocolate Cake. The tapas, desserts and drinks at Bubo are hands-down the best food we've had to date in Spain. Maybe it was the company too but we highly recommend it. The Lichtenstein sculpture I include not because we were so enchanted with it but rather because it pinpoints our location sandwiched between Barceloneta/beach and Barri Gotic. We loved the apartment but that first day was kinda rough. I nearly threw my back out carrying up all the luggage to the fifth floor while Ed returned the rental car. The lift was tricky and mostly out of commission the whole week. So I spent the first few days recovering from that injury. I don't have any photos of the apartment itself but it was truly lovely and convenient with both a small restaurant and a supermercado in our block. The supermercado (essentially a 7/11) was like the miracle store, serving up pretty much everything we needed. Scott even found a tiny bottle of absinthe, so we all sampled it for the first time. We discovered you don't drink it, you absorb/inhale it. Fortunately no one ever got blind-drunk from it but it livened up the World Cup even more! Finally, Barcelona was having some fun with its public service signs, many aimed at visiting drunken tourists (don't pee on our streets/beaches, don't fall asleep on the sidewalk, etc) who really seemed unlikely to follow instructions. But this sign was aimed at its own residents with dogs but given the immense amount of caca on the streets/sidewalks no one was too worried about a 300-600 Euro fine.
