Generalife--Alhambra, Part III

This post could have been titled "Let's Get It On" because Generalife, the "summer palace" and its extensive gardens, were the stuff of harem legends. We didn't lay it out for the boys in detail but it wouldn't have mattered anyway. They could not be distracted from Escaler del Agua (The Water Staircase) a series of water channels on each side of a long staircase which made for ideal leaf races. Thank goodness there were other water attractions ahead or Nate would have stayed forever. In retrospect, I failed to note a lot in the first two posts--the Palace of the Nasrids was under some renovation so one of its highlights, the Court of Lions, was completely non-existent. That was a bummer. One of the banquet halls was the scene of major bloodshed in the palace--an emir invited his enemies over for dinner and slaughtered them over dessert. And then there are monuments to Washington Irving who penned the Tales of the Alhambra here. And baths and flowers and more fountains. Well, you get it. Highly recommended. I'd wanted to go but as Nate put it, "it's like the Williamsburg of Spain" which to him is the very highest praise for his 7 years.
